Description

Sickle Cell Disease is a severe form of hereditary Anemia in which red blood cells lose their shape and become sickle shaped thereby causing a serious reduction in oxygen levels in the person’s body. The World Sickle Cell Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008 in order to increase awareness about sickle cell disease among the common public and to deliberately encourage more research and funding to its cure. UN General Assembly 63rd session declared the 19th of June to be celebrated as the world sickle cell day.
